Building a Formula

Learn how to master formula building.

The Formula Bar (located in the Assumptions tab) is where all your model’s calculations will be built out. This article dives into the basics of writing your own formulas in Forecastr.

Please note that our application is currently in Beta, so features are subject to change as we continue to build incredible tools for you!

Writing a Formula

Similar to other spreadsheet-based software, you can change the formula of your row by clicking into the row and either clicking into the formula bar or hitting the “=” sign on your keyboard.

Once you start building your formula you can reference a Metric, Constant, or Tag by typing its name in the formula bar and clicking on (or hitting enter) on the correct option in the search results. Remember that when referencing a tag you need to wrap it in another math function such as “sum()” or “avg()”.

If you’ve selected the wrong metric in your formula you can click on it to replace it with another metric in the model.

Functions

Formulas in Forecastr are simple and intuitive. We follow PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction) syntax when writing formulas and have some additional functions that can be used as well.

If you would like to look through our library of functions simply hit the “f ” symbol to the left of your formula bar. When you find a function that you would like to use, simply click on it to add it to your formula bar.
